Predictive modeling of cave entrance locations: relationships between surface and subsurface morphology

نویسندگان

چکیده

Cave entrances directly connect the surface and subsurface geomorphology in karst landscapes. Understanding spatial distribution of these features can help identify areas on landscape that are critical to flow groundwater system. Sinkholes springs major locations inflow outflow from system, respectively, however not all sinkholes equally connected main conduit Predicting where zones high connectivity exist is a challenge because cave difficult detect imperfectly documented. Wildlife research has similar issue understanding complexities given species likely incomplete information presence-only data. Species models address some issues create accurate predictions or event occurrence across landscape. Here we apply model, MaxEnt, predict entrance three geomorphic regions Kentucky. We built with Kentucky Speleological Survey database predictor variables, including distance sinkholes, springs, faults, elevation, lithology, slope, aspect. All regional well most important variables for predicting consistent between models. Throughout models, had largest influence likelihood presence. This unique use modeling techniques shows they potentially valuable tools understand patterns other either ephemeral using standard techniques.

on translation of phatic communion and socio-cultural relationships between the characters of the novels

phatic communion is a cultural concept which differs across cultures. according to hofstede (2001), the u.s. tends to have individualistic culture; however, asian countries tend to have collectivistic cultures. these cultures view phatic communion differently. in individualistic cultures like u.s., phatic communion reflects speakers’ socio-cultural relationships in conversations. to see whether...

Conjunctive surface–subsurface modeling of overland flow

In this paper, details of a conjunctive surface–subsurface numerical model for the simulation of overland flow are presented. In this model, the complete onedimensional Saint-Venant equations for the surface flow are solved by a simple, explicit, essentially non-oscillating (ENO) scheme. The two-dimensional Richards equation in the mixed form for the subsurface flow is solved using an efficient...

Predictive Modeling of Aboriginal Artwork Locations Using Case Based Reasoning

The aim of this paper is to predict where Australian Aboriginal artwork may be found. We know where some rock art exists and we take this as the example of where we might find more such artwork. With these examples we use the terrain characteristics of the Mount Yengo National Park to model the probable locations of other such paintings. Similarity maps are produced to show where more artwork m...

Multi-Parametric Analysis and Modeling of Relationships between Mitochondrial Morphology and Apoptosis

Mitochondria exist as a network of interconnected organelles undergoing constant fission and fusion. Current approaches to study mitochondrial morphology are limited by low data sampling coupled with manual identification and classification of complex morphological phenotypes. Here we propose an integrated mechanistic and data-driven modeling approach to analyze heterogeneous, quantified datase...
